My Thoughts: EXO's controversial 1st win

Against such a respected sunbae like Cho Yong Pil, EXO won with their album sales that pushed them to the #1 spot on Music Bank. More than half of Korea (or at least of the MuBank audience) is stunned to see a rookie group win "with such a horrible song."

In fact, Instiz fans had already predicted for their win, and even the EXOtic fandom thought that it was not the right time to win. But the damage was done. Netizens are furious about the whole ordeal.

I was shocked about the winning prediction, but after reading that, I wasn't shocked about the win itself. The amount of albums sold made records and that is something that should be noteworthy, not buried within the controversy. But I'm not one to judge how fangirls support their oppars. I'm sure all of us have at least bought one CD before, to support the artists we love. EXOtics may be a bit more extreme than most fandoms, some buying 50+ albums to try and get into a fansigning, but does that depreciate the value of their support for their idols? No, I don't think so.

What really bothers me is EXO's response to the win. Leader Suho takes the trophy and the mic to begin the appreciation speech, but his expression... it was as if he was trying to make himself cry. I had to wonder if they had seen the Instiz thread with the predictions, because none of them seemed really frazzled or shocked or even very grateful. Suho should not have taken the mic because my goodness, the moment he got off, he was laughing with other members. Chanyeol, thank you for at least saving Suho from losing face. I think if Suho had continued on camera, he would have burst out laughing or something, since I feel like the only reason he "cried" was because he had promised fans to do so. And all you fans who think that Suho was genuine: this is just my opinion and I will stand by it. Meanwhile, I wasn't surprised at how Kyungsoo didn't cry. He's not as vulnerable as one may think and so I thought that his hugs with his sunbaes were more heartwarming and appropriate. Perhaps all of the boys have thick skin and so the win didn't affect them as much as it does to other groups. Then that would not be their fault at all, but because of Suho's promise, he came off as a total douche and that taints my opinion of him and his 7 years of toiling trainee life.

EXO, don't forget to be humble and thankful for those who have had your backs even before your start. Your sunbaes and managers and bosses and fans, they deserve your appreciation.
